Durant, OK is a pleasant, community-centric town with an interesting history and plenty of nearby lakes and attractive natural areas to explore. When the sun’s shining and the birds are singing on a beautiful Oklahoma day, it’s nice to get outside for a while. Here are some great outdoor activities to enjoy in and around Durant.

Play Disc Golf in Carl Albert Park

Carl Albert Park offers a lovely leafy green area to stroll through with a trickling stream and a few excellent walking trails. One of the best features of this charming little park is a nine-hole disc golf course, where you follow the course through scenic settings, attempting to fling your frisbee into each target.

Disc golf is a fantastic way to spend a few hours in nature for both kids and adults alike. You can find the park on Brookside Drive.

Go Fishing in Durant Lake

At the northern end of town, there’s another great park on the bank of Lake Durant, to be found at the end of Durant Lake Road. Here, you can settle down in the peace and quiet of nature and cast your line into water that’s teaming with fish.

There are few more peaceful ways to escape the hustle and bustle of daily work life. No matter how many fish you catch, you’re sure to return home feeling relaxed with a smile on your face. The park also has a nice little campground if you’d like to stay for more than one day.

Let the Kids Have a Blast in Rocket Park

Dixon Durant Park, better known as Rocket Park, is near the center of town and has a great playground for kids that features the park’s namesake: a large rocket-shaped climbing frame and slide. There are also various other swing sets and slides, plus a basketball court and tennis courts.

You can picnic on covered tables in the park or relax on well-kept stretches of lawn. Rocket Park is located at North 10th Avenue.

Go Camping in a Local RV Park

There are quite a few terrific little RV parks nearby, one of which is the popular Sticklers RV Park, a couple of miles to the west of town. Whether you’d like a quick getaway or a longer stay, this peaceful, private RV park has spaces for camper trailers and RVs of all sizes in beautiful, quiet surroundings. They also have well-maintained on-site communal areas and restrooms.

The location at 8756 US-70, Mead, OK, is ideal, allowing a quick drive into town or the nearby Walmart for supplies, and a short 10-mile drive to reach the stunning shores of Lake Texoma. Drive to the campground in your brand-new 2023 Dodge Durango. With a maximum potential towing power of 8,700 pounds, your Durango can pull even large camper trailers with ease.
